The hosting of major sporting events has helped consolidate its identity as a leading sports capital and has generated opportunities that go far beyond the realm of competition. In this context, the Grand Départ of the Tour de France 2026 from Barcelona, scheduled for July, represents a new milestone for the city. This internationally significant event will not only place Barcelona at the center of the global sporting stage, but will also provide an opportunity to reflect on the role of major events in urban, social, and economic development.
