The Museu Olímpic i de l’Esport JA Samaranch in Barcelona hosted the 10th anniversary celebration of Sanitas’ Healthy Cities initiative, which encourages healthy lifestyles and greener cities. The event was hosted by Olympic medalist Eli Pinedo and featured appearances by fellow Olympians Gemma Mengual and Eva Moral, who shared their personal commitment to health and environmental awareness.
Other prominent guests included environmental activist Erin Brockovich, Spanish Olympic Committee President Alejandro Blanco, and Barcelona’s Sports Councillor David Escudé. The event included the presentation of the Healthy Cities Spaces Awards, honoring urban sustainability projects.
The winning cities were Granada, Seville, and Murcia, each receiving €70,000 worth of trees. Cartagena, Valladolid, and Zaragoza were recognized with runner-up awards, and Onda (Castellón) received a special mention.
In addition, Barcelona, Madrid, Bilbao, and Valencia received special recognition for their direct involvement in the challenge through local activities such as solidarity walks. In total, eleven cities will receive trees valued at over €600,000.
This year, more than 22,600 people joined the challenge of walking 6,000 steps a day from May to June, helping prevent the emission of over 14 tons of CO₂. Healthy Cities continues turning daily steps into collective action for greener, healthier cities.
