On Sunday 17 May, the Museu Olímpic i de l’Esport Joan Antoni Samaranch celebrates International Museum Day with a free open day. Although the official commemoration falls on 18 May, we are bringing the celebration forward to Sunday so everyone can enjoy it with family and friends.
This year, International Museum Day is dedicated to the theme “Museums Uniting a Divided World”, highlighting the role of museums as spaces for dialogue, encounter and connection across cultures, generations and communities. A reminder that sport, like museums, is a universal bridge.
The event also marks the 80th anniversary of ICOM, the international organisation bringing together museums and museum professionals from around the world, and reaffirms the contribution of museums to the Sustainable Development Goals — particularly the reduction of inequalities, peace, and global partnerships.
