The torch was designed by the Brazilian engineer Gustavo Chelles, but it was developed for production by a cluster of Catalan companies that joined forces to carry out the project: Awa-premis, a firm specialising in designing and manufacturing medals, cups and trophies; Recam Làser, a metal parts manufacturer; Kromschroeder, a company in Hospitalet that makes gas meters and created the combustion system for the Barcelona'92 torch; and Taurus.
