The Museu Olímpic i de l’Esport Joan Antoni Samaranch has hosted the press conference ahead of the Barcelona qualifier for the WBSC Premier12 2027, which takes place from 9 to 11 October. For the first time, the city is hosting a qualifying event for this competition.
The President of the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC), Riccardo Fraccari, wished luck to all the participating teams: Colombia, Italy, Germany and Spain. Two teams from this tournament will qualify for the WBSC Premier12 2027.
The presentation also served as an opportunity to pay tribute to Juli Pernas, trustee of the Fundació Barcelona Olímpica (FBO) and former president of the Royal Spanish Baseball and Softball Federation (RFEBS). Both the WBSC and the Spanish federation took advantage of the event to recognise his career.
Pernas received the RFEBS Medal of Honour from the federation’s president, Pablo Carpio, in recognition of his 20 years at the helm of the Spanish federation. For his part, Fraccari referred to Pernas as “an old friend.”
The Museu Olímpic i de l’Esport Joan Antoni Samaranch, headquarters of the FBO, thus became the setting for an event that brings together the Olympic legacy of Barcelona 1992 with the present of baseball and softball.
