The Museu Olímpic i de l’Esport Joan Antoni Samaranch has achieved outstanding results in the XI Marató RE-M, significantly reducing energy and water consumption as well as emissions during the four weeks of the initiative.
During this period, the museum reduced its electricity consumption by 20.57%, equivalent to 5,146 kWh saved. Water consumption was reduced by 31.67%, representing 11 m³ less usage. These efforts also resulted in a 22.57% reduction in CO₂ emissions, preventing approximately 1,463 kg of CO₂ from being released into the atmosphere.
It is worth noting that these results were achieved during a particularly busy month for the museum, coinciding with the BCN Sports Film Festival, organized by the Fundació Barcelona Olímpica. The museum serves as the festival’s main venue, hosting the opening and closing ceremonies, as well as several thematic screenings and school sessions, which this year welcomed more than 1,000 students from schools across Catalonia.
These results highlight the commitment and collective effort of all the teams involved, who contributed to achieving the Marathon’s objectives while maintaining the museum’s intense cultural and educational activity. They also reinforce the institution’s commitment to continuing to move towards more efficient and sustainable management of the facility.
