The Museu Olímpic i de l’Esport Joan Antoni Samaranch is expanding its skeleton collection with a new temporary display that will be open to the public from April.
Through an agreement formalized with the signatures of athlete Ander Mirambell and the director of the Museu Olímpic i de l’Esport Joan Antoni Samaranch, Francesc Terrón, training shoes adapted by the athlete himself using cheese graters and sandpaper to prevent slipping during training, along with other items from his Olympic collection, have been loaned.
This loan complements items already in the museum since 2013, illustrating the development of skeleton in Spain. The temporary display in the museum’s hall will also include credentials from the Beijing 2022 Olympic Games, the 2024 Member International Bobsleigh & Skeleton Federation, and the 2024 Youth Olympic Games in Gangwon, as well as personal notes on techniques and strategies for the sport.
Meanwhile, the museum’s permanent exhibition continues to feature historic pieces such as the competition sled and the full uniform from the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games, reinforcing the presence of skeleton in the collection.
