David Moner wished to say his farewells as President of the UFEC at a ceremony to recognise sporting organisations and leaders and mark the presentation of the book

Maite Fandos, President of the Barcelona Olympic Foundation and Deputy Mayor for Quality of Life, Equality and Sport, and Ivan Tibau, Secretary-General for Sport at the Autonomous Regional Government of Catalonia, accompanied Moner, thanking him for his great efforts on behalf of Catalan sport.

The ceremony was made up of various sections. First of all, silver insignias were handed out to four of the Catalan sporting presidents leaving their posts: Juan Luís Giménez (Catalan Baseball and Federation), Santiago Altarriba (Squash), Sílvia Maig (Korfbal) and Anaïs Cobo (Life Saving).

The Female Sports Leader award was then given to Maria José Bilbao for her sterling work in the world of swimming. Maria José Bilbao is one of the driving forces behind synchronised swimming in Catalonia, and played an active in the championships won in this Olympic discipline.

The ceremony closed with two presentations: the 2014 Catalan Champions Medal, designed by Benet Costa, awarded to the senior Catalan champions in each discipline, and the book “The Sports Federations of Catalonia and their Presidents”. David Moner wanted with this book to bring to a close his time as President of the UFEC by honouring the almost 700 people who have headed the Catalan federation movement ever since the first sports federations were first set up in the late 19th century.
