Tribute Domingo Catalán

Maite Fandos, President of the Barcelona Olympic Foundation, together with Josep Conesa, President of the Sport and Nature Athletic Club, were the hosts for the tribute to Domingo Catalán, twice world 100 km champion and one of the great pioneers of long-distance athletics in Catalonia.

The truly distinctive quality of Domingo Catalán is his great passion for athletics. Joan Fonseré first encouraged him to run at Barça, and once he discovered athletics sport became his vocation. In 1964, then, he began to train with Gregorio Rojo.

The most important thing for Domingo was to run, and he established himself as one of the most renowned athletes in Catalonia, twice claiming the world championship. In 1984 he turned his sport into his profession, setting up the Domingo Catalán chain of stores specialising in running equipment. A sportsman who made athletics his passion and vocation, who feels truly alive when he pulls on his running shoes and who enjoys racing because “it always gives you some story to tell afterwards”.
