Mandela – AWEPA is the product of a partnership between the Barcelona Olympic Foundation, the non-profit organisation which manages the Olympic and Sport Museum, and AWEPA, an association founded in 1984 by European politicians to help Nelson Mandela in his struggle against apartheid. Following the abolition of the social scourge of apartheid, and likewise on the wishes of Nelson Mandela, AWEPA continued to work to consolidate human rights, strengthen democracy and develop international cooperation in Africa.
AWEPA’s activities promote, among other initiatives, the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals in Africa, including the reduction of poverty, especially among women and children.
The values which AWEPA addresses in its programmes can likewise, of course, include those focused on sport, such as training, peaceful coexistence and respect.
