“The Champion” sculpture

The bronze sculpture The Champion, by sculptor Llucià Oslé, is considered the first sports sculpture to be created in the Spanish state (1911).

This sculpture was presented at the 6th International Art Exhibition, held at the Palacio de Bellas Artes in Barcelona in 1911.

It is believed to have been inspired by one of the most important footballers of the first decade of the 20th century, Barcelona native Santiago Massana Urgellés, known as Tiago.
